Poverty & Poor Living Conditions in Uganda
We Are Born Into It—But We Refuse to Die in It
For millions of young Ugandans, poverty isn’t just a statistic—it’s the daily struggle of life. It means waking up with no food, sleeping on a dirt floor, and going to bed with no job, no hope, and no help from those in power. While a few grow richer through corruption and privilege, most youth are left behind in a system that was never built for us.
The Harsh Reality
- Over 50% of Ugandans live in poverty, Just imagine the state of the youth!
- Many youth live without electricity, clean water, or toilets.
- Landless youth can’t farm or build a future.
- Slums and rural villages have little to no access to healthcare, education, or safe housing.
- Most youth in poverty are locked out of government programs meant to help them.
“We are not poor because we’re lazy. We are poor because we were denied opportunities.”
What Poverty Really Feels Like
- Hunger that keeps you from thinking clearly
- Watching your parents work hard but earn nothing
- Dropping out of school because you can’t afford uniforms or pads
- Walking kilometers to fetch water or see a doctor
- Being told to “start a business” when you have zero capital
What We’re Doing About It
The National Youth Movement is bringing attention, resources, and power to the youth who have been ignored for too long.
We are:
- Organizing youth in villages, slums, and refugee settlements
- Amplifying stories of poverty and struggle that leaders don’t want to hear
- Training youth in survival skills, local farming, savings groups, and microbusinesses
- Partnering with NGOs and development groups to deliver services where the government fails
- Demanding equity in national budgeting and youth-targeted policies
Poverty Is Not Permanent
We believe that with the right support, young people can rise above poverty. But we cannot do it alone—we need policy, partnership, and most importantly, a united movement that refuses to accept these living conditions as normal.
“We are not asking for charity. We are demanding justice.”
