In the beautiful hills of Sebei, covering Kapchorwa, Kween, and Bukwo, families have been waiting, hoping, and praying for relief that is meant to ease their suffering. The government, through the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness, promised aid to support vulnerable households, but today’s reality shows that hope is not enough.
Relief food was distributed in Kapchorwa District, covering West Division, Gamogo, Kabeywa, and Chepterich sub-counties. The stories from the ground are heartbreaking. Mothers and fathers report missing out entirely while those who received aid got mere scraps, sometimes only one kilogram of posho, without beans, or beans without posho. Children go to bed hungry, wondering why help arrives so little and so late.
How can relief, meant to save lives, come a month late? Were the officials absent or did the plight of the people only register yesterday? The delay, combined with reports of corruption in the distribution process, makes the suffering even heavier. Families are left not just hungry but forgotten.
The Sebei National Youth Movement stands with these communities. No one should have to wait in vain while those entrusted with their care turn a blind eye. Relief is not charity. It is a lifeline, and every child, every mother, and every father deserves it in full and on time.
Sebei people should be treated like humans.
