Our people’s stories must no longer be buried under mud, fear, or silence.
The Sebei National Youth Movement (SNYM) has begun a major community study across the Sebei sub-region focusing on the districts of Kween, Bukwo, and Kapchorwa. Your feedback will help us present clear facts to leaders, development partners, and other key stakeholders who can take action to improve life in our region.
For many years, families in Sebei have faced natural disasters, insecurity, displacement, and neglect. When mudslides crush homes or floods sweep away crops and livestock, communities are left to dig through the debris alone. When raids and shootings claim lives or property, there is little help and even less accountability. Through this study, SNYM hopes to give these stories visibility and voice, turning pain into evidence that policymakers cannot ignore.
Why We Are Doing This
Sebei communities continue to face overlapping crises. Mudslides and floods bury entire households. People near Mount Elgon live in fear of fines, arrests, and shootings while trying to survive. Cattle raids from neighbouring regions leave families destitute. Land disputes and unclear boundaries make it hard to plant or rebuild. Hospitals are far away, roads are poor, and schools lack teachers and materials.
Yet, despite all this, the people of Sebei remain resilient. They rebuild, share, and stand together. This strength is the heartbeat of our region and it deserves to be heard. The Sebei National Youth Movement believes that real change begins when communities tell their own stories and back them with data.
About the Study
The study will combine quantitative and qualitative methods to hear from people across all walks of life – youth, elders, women, men, farmers, traders, and leaders. It will focus on:
- Disaster preparedness and response
- Security and cross-border peace
- Land access and demarcation
- Service delivery and infrastructure
- Employment and livelihoods
- Governance, corruption, and public trust
- Regional belonging and identity
Findings will form a Sebei Community Voice Report, highlighting both the challenges and the solutions proposed by local residents themselves. This report will help guide government agencies, development partners, and civil society to take action that truly reflects Sebei’s priorities.
Our Commitment
The Sebei National Youth Movement (SNYM) is a peaceful, youth-led community organisation rooted in the Sebei sub-region. We exist to unite young people and communities in advancing justice, dignity, and opportunity for all. Our focus is local but our vision is national: a Uganda where every region is heard, valued, and empowered.
This study is part of our ongoing work to strengthen community voice, gather evidence, and advocate for lasting, people-centred solutions.
Get Involved
We encourage everyone from local leaders to ordinary citizens to participate in this effort. Share your story, your opinion, and your hope for a better Sebei.
